Assessments

What goes into an ADHD Assessment

This is a in depth assessment of the child's neuro-developmental needs, through school observations, developmental history and interviews. On completion of this assessment we can provide recommendations or referrals to other services. All assessments follow the NICE guidelines used by the NHS Trusts. For a brief overview, see the three key steps in diagnosing ADHD.

Our Assessment Process

Our assessment process is designed to develop a full understanding of the young person's neuro-developmental health. The assessment starts with either a school observation or, if home schooled, a QB test and a young persons  ADHD questionaire called a DIVA, which identify ADHD synptoms. We then proceed to a developmental history with the family. This provides the information needed to fully assess and diagnose the young person's behavioural characteristics, to determine whether they have ADHD.

School Observation

To get a clear understanding of the young person's behaviour, we observe the young person's behaviours in a familiar setting, amongst their peers  where they have to concentrate for extended periods of time. We also conduct a teacher interview to identify any patterns in behaviour that have been observed. If the young person is 11yrs plus a DIVA / young person's interview is done to identify how their symptomatic behaviours affect their day to day life.

QB Test

For those who don't attend traditional schooling, a QB test is used to assess the young person's symptoms. This is a computer based test. It provides independent data and a profile of the young person’s inattentive, hyperactive and impulsive symptomatic behaviours.

Development History

An interview is conducted with the young person's parent/guardian, to understand how the behaviours of the young person have presented at different stages of their development. Questions will explore  the mothers pregnancy and  the birth of young person; the young person's academinc funtioning, physical and mental health needs, social skills, and services the young person is previously and currently accessing. This appointment will take place through a video call or by telephone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I decide to start the assessment without a screening call?

  • It is your choice, however we strongly recommend the screening call to avoid committing to an assessment if other services may be more suitable

Do all assessments cost the same?

  • The guideline for pricing can be found on the Pricing page. Some assessments may cost more than others due to additional assessments being required. These assessments will not be performed by Wrexham ADHD Clinic, however, we will support you in finding a suitable service.

Can the assessment be completed if the young person doesn't attend school?

  • Yes. In this instance we use the QB test to further assess their symptoms.
